New users and veterans, come one come all. With enough responses, the data can be analysed and we hypothesise a little about what’s more or less effective for getting people to check EM. Or not. We can at least have fun thinking about all the wacky, coincidental ways we found EM. 99.9% of websites online don’t change lives, let’s never forget to be thankful for discovering a 0.01% website that does, however accidentally.
From an Angie Hepp YouTube video.
From the comments to video about high index -14 glasses.
Searched on google “how to improve myopia reddit” then I found the ebook by CG Hayes on the r/myopia subreddit which led me to spend more time on the subreddit and I eventually found endmyopia when I read Varakaris post on the r/myopia subreddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/myopia/comments/9gkc7m/myopia_improvement_half_a_year_of_focal_distance/
Yay, glad you liked my post @Vishaal!
For me, it started with Todd Becker’s talk, which doesn’t mention Endmyopia (I think it predates it), but totally threw me off from believing what optometrists say. So I had a look around what alternative opinions are out there. Endmyopia showed up in a number of places, including various search term combinations on the web, Youtube (including Angie Hepp), and various comment sections. I don’t know where I found it first, but I don’t think it matters, since I really couldn’t have missed it once I was looking for theories on why we become more or less myopic.
YouTube recommended it to me, probably because I have been researching Bates Method info from time-to-time.
I discovered endmyopia at a half second glance on reddit, which linked to defetter.com. It has an ‘about the author’ link at the bottom of the page (was doubting clicking because the entire article i just read was about stopping internet browsing). Then you get to this page, over to losetheglasses.org and finally into the rabbit hole. Who said the butterfly effect didn’t exist?
From another myopia-reduction site that does not exist anymore.
If I remember correctly I was searching for how to maintain (improve) myopia or how to relax your eyes. Then found Bates, which sounded weird and when I tried to found if Bates work or not then I found Endmyopia.
Todd Becker’s talk, Angie Hepp’s Videos
I have high Myopia and in Jan 19 suddenly got new floaters in my eyes. I went to Opto and then to Retina specialist. The Retina specialist suggested to wear glasses 1 Diopter less than usual prescription to avoid eye strain. So, I googled effect of reduced prescription on eyes, then I watched Todd Becker’s talk, Angie Hepp’s videos on You tube and in one of the video she linked Endmyopia and C.G. Hayes e-Book, which suggests similar method. Those all were information in bits and pieces but Endmyopia website was wonderful, I kept on reading all the info which was visible and then signed up for Jake’s 7 days e-mail.
I searched on YouTube “causes and prevention of progressive myopia” than I saw some videos, than I reached to Angie’s channel and got this site
I went for a routine optometrist checkup and found out that my prescription had gone down by 1 diopter per eye. I started searching online for reasons why this might have happened (since, big surprise, my optometrist said he had no idea why) and what I could do to get more improvements. One of the first things I came across was endmyopia. Thanks goodness! Years ago I had thought to search for the same thing, but it must have been before endmyopia (I think it was 6 or so years ago) and I only came across Bates stuff, which didn’t seemed a bit ridiculous.
Read Meir Schneider’s book (based on Bates) and one of his recommendations is to wear corrections that give you 20/40 vision instead of 20/20. Stumbled across EM when searching for ways to do that.
Found EM 10 months ago while searching for more on the Bates method. First you think, is this serious? because of some funny looking videos of Jake. But kept on reading, getting more and more impressed, deciding to do the email series and was hooked ! Regretted finding him so late as I already had retinal detachment shortly before and since spring this year also cataract in the same eye. This cataract stopped my progress also for the ‘good’ eye.
From Jake’s episode on the Human Performance Outliers Podcast.
Mercola mentioning Bates Method to rid him of presbyopia (Youtube Video), Bates led me straight to Endmyopia.
I was certain my glasses were causing my migraines, and felt like maybe my eye had improved since introducing reduced close up glasses. I had stumbled on Bates stuff in the past though the what I could access seemed like useless exercises and a mess of ads to buy in. I got the idea to borrow a book from the library but there were several to choose from, that a started me searching for something that made sense to bother signing out and then I stumbled across emdmyopia. Didn’t end up needing the materials I had reserved at the library (both on Bates method) and the rest as they say is history.
I read an answer from Jake in Quora What are the ways to reduce the effects of myopia naturally?.
That is one amazing answer! I’ve read many quora pages before, mainly for software related question and not seen an answer so detailed and useful as @jakey’s
Somehow it showed up in my Quora feed. It might be due to the fact that I was searching a lot about Lasik.
